GORUCK Rucker 4.0

The GORUCK Rucker 4.0 has officially launched and is available for purchase.

Building off the Rucker 3.0, the Rucker 4.0 comes in 20L and 25L and offers some streamlined enhancements from previous versions. (More on the larger sizes in just a little bit.)

Of note, in the Rucker 4.0 zippers (most, not all) have been removed. You’ll notice this first in the front pouch… which is gone.

Second, zippers have been removed from the interior pockets and been replaced with tabs and velcro access.

The spec sheet also indicates “improved interior padding” but I’m not sure what that means.

Carrying over from the 3.0, the Rucker 4.0 will continue to have the 201D on the back panel, lumbar support, drain holes, elevate ruck plate holder, Sternum strap, and is hip-belt compatible.

Much to the surprise of many, the launch of the Rucker 4.0 does NOT include the larger sizes of 33L and 39L. Those sizes are reserved for the newly launched “Rucker Down Range.” Here is our write up on the Rucker Down Range.

Price point for the Rucker 4.0 is ____. For reference, Rucker 3.0 were priced at $215 and $235

Everything below was written prior to the launch for the Rucker 4.0

The latest iteration of the GORUCK Rucker, version 4.0, is set to launch and here’s what we know.

First, GORUCK Dropped the teaser on their IG.

From the pic on IG, there’s not much to learn. I appear to me to be the size of a standard 25L Rucker and is in multicam. I’d even say that this could just as easily be a Rucker 3.0 in the picture. So, from this post, I don’t see much different.

Rucker 4.0 Alert Page

The link GORUCK is driving people to is here.

The page has a teaser image and a call-to-action for people to register for text and email alerts to be “the first to know” when it drops.

This is a nice marketing move. And, if you want to be the first to know, it really is the way to go. I previously signed up for the first-alert text messages and, 90% of the time, this is the quickest way to learn about a gear drop (second only to the Ruck.Beer social media on IG, FB, Twitter) and I highly recommend it.

Rucker 4.0 Pictures

The product shots on the alert page are interesting.

The rucks pictured on the page REALLY look like GR2s. The middle image clearly has 2 rows of zippers.

This leads me to believe that the Rucker 4.0 will come in a 33L and/or 39L version. This is something that Jason has talked about in the past and, for a while, was listed as a requirement for Top Tier Events. Seems like they are finally ready to deliver.

The question that I have is: How much overlap will the Rucker 4.0 have with the GR2? If it has two sections like the GR2, will. it have the same pocket configuration? If so, that will increase production costs.

I think it is safe to assume that it will not have the laptop compartment, so there is some production cost savings there.

And, of course, The Rucker 4.0 will most certainly have ruck plate pockets. I’m assuming that it will be similar to the setup in the most recent iteration of the Rucker 3.5 25L which supports up to 45# plates.

Rucker 4.0 Colors

From the teaser images, it looks like Coyote, Black, and Black Multicam may be in the initial launch. Tiger Stripe is unlikely, people.

GORUCK Rucker 4.0 Price

Price is a real wildcard in my mind. Rucker 3.5 comes in at $235 and GR2 is $415. I’d expect to find the Rucker 4.0 somewhere in the $350 range, mostly because it appears to be more like a GR2 than a traditional Rucker. But… that’s just a guess on my part.

Rucker 4.0 Smaller Changes?

Final question I’m pondering is whether there are any other changes to the smaller size Ruckers. Will the Rucker 4.0 bring any new advances to the 21L and 25L, or is 4.0 simply the addition of the larger versions.

Rucker 4.0 Shipping Date

At the time of posting, all we know is “Coming Next Week.” This is a little ambiguous. Really hoping that it isn’t “pre-orders” coming next week. But, with current supply chain blah-blah-blah, it is anyone’s guess.

Let’s all just collectively hope that next week is a for-reals launch and ship. But… the pessimist in me says to keep expectations in check.

  1. Would be be great to have 20L version with velcro flap to secure both ruxk weight pockets. Also additional molle attachments on the sides so that hip belt and additional equipment can be attached at the same time, such as a water bottle pouch. Also reflective material somewhere on front straps.
